The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt Club Letters from 1920s farm wives and the blocks they inspire.
Next meeting - Saturday, August 14: 10:00 - 4:00 Club Dues - $5.00 per meeting. Participants will need their own copy of the book.
There is still room in this group for anyone wanting to make this quilt! The club is simply a group of quilters getting together to work on their blocks. We've met two times (visit our Facebook page and check out the "Farmer's Wife" photo album for a look at some of the blocks we've made so far).
The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt is a beautifully written book (CD included with patterns for ALL the blocks and settings for lap, twin, queen and king size quilts)that details a question and contest posed to the readers by the editors of "The Farmer's Wife" a popular women's magazine of the 1920s. Specifically, the question asked reader's, "If you had a daughter of marriageable age, would you, in the light of your own experience, want her to marry a farmer?" And the answers they received were overwhelming.
Laurie Aaron Hird has compiled these letters into a thought provoking book and awe-inspiring quilt about the women, their letters and the times they lived in. Join me and let's set out on our own journey as we piece this beautiful quilt. We will meet monthly (more often if the group so desires) and share our feelings on the letters and the women who wrote them while we stitch our own stories into our very own quilts.
